General Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Maintenance

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV maintenance is similar to the maintenance required for the model’s gas-powered counterpart, but the intervals can differ based on the driving conditions. Here’s all you need to know about maintaining your hybrid Mitsubishi.

General Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Maintenance

Mitsubishi recommends changing the engine oil and engine oil filter every six months or 7,500 miles, whichever comes first. Every 7,500 miles, you should also rotate the tires to prevent uneven wear and maintain the vehicle’s performance. The other fluids and most systems should be inspected every 15,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, except for the engine coolant which should be changed after 120,000 miles for the first time.

The coolant hoses and high voltage wires only require inspections every 30,000 miles or every 24 months, but you should inspect the brake pads and rotors for wear every 10,000 miles or every 12 months. Keeping track of all these intervals can be daunting, but here at Redondo Mitsubishi, our expert technicians can check your vehicle’s maintenance requirements and take care of all maintenance needs for you to keep your ride in top condition.

Emission Control System Maintenance

In addition to the general maintenance, your Outlander PHEV also requires regular inspections of the emission control system. The hoses, drive belts, and exhaust system, including the muffler, muffler pipe, and converter heat shields, should be inspected every 30,000 miles or every 24 months. The tank, pipelines, connections, and intake and exhaust valves should be inspected every 60,000 miles or 48 months, whichever occurs first.

The same 60,000-mile or 48-month interval applies to the evaporative emission control system, which should be checked for clogs and leaks. In addition, the spark plugs must be replaced every 105,000 miles.

Severe Driving Maintenance Requirements

Severe driving conditions refer to driving in high-traffic areas, such as busy city streets during rush hour, dusty, muddy, or salt-spread roads, and sandy areas. Using your Outlander PHEV for taxi or similar services also falls under severe driving conditions.

In all these circumstances, you should change the engine oil and replace the engine oil filter every 3,500 miles or every three months. Inspection intervals for various other systems are also different compared to the normal driving maintenance schedule.
