From Your Local Mitsubishi Dealership: Tire Maintenance Tips

Tires are a vital component of your Mitsubishi. Although today’s tires are manufactured for durability, you still need to look after them, which is where tire maintenance comes in. As your Mitsubishi dealership, we look at maintenance tips to ensure your tires carry you safely and as far as possible.

From Your Local Mitsubishi Dealership: Tire Maintenance Tips

Inspect Your Tires

One of the easiest maintenance tasks is to inspect your tires regularly and check they’re in good condition. The outside edge of a tire is known as the sidewall and is made of softer rubber than the tread, making it more susceptible to damage.

Frequently check the sidewall for cracks, splits, or bulges. Also, have the tires inspected annually by a professional, as experienced technicians may pick up any flaws that are invisible to the untrained eye. If the sidewall is showing signs of wear and tear, it could be time for new tires.

Tread Depth

Pay particular attention to the tread depth. Wear bars are often built into the groves of Mitsubishi tires, providing an instant indication of the tread depth. These bars are set at 2/32 inches. When the tread is getting close to the level of the wear bar, you should consider replacing them as your tires have worn down and could be a safety concern, especially when driving in wet conditions.

Tire Pressure

Once a month and before setting out on a long journey, check the pressure in your tires. Low pressure can cause tires to lose their grip on the road surface, compromising the safety of your ride. Ensure your tires are inflated to the correct pressure as stipulated in your owner’s manual.

Tire Rotation

Your Mitsubishi’s tires wear at different rates. For example, the front right tire might wear on the outer edge, while the rear left may wear more towards the outside. Rotating the tires helps distribute the wear and tear so each wheel wears evenly and at the same rate. Whichever Mitsubishi you drive, we recommend booking your vehicle for a rotation every 5,000 to 7,000 miles to help extend the longevity of your tires.
